The Amplitude reboot will be released for PS4 on January 5th, 2016. Kickstarter backers who pledged $40 or more will have early access to the game starting December 23rd. The first Amplitude was a music game originally developed for PS2 by Harmonix in 2003. It was a sequel to Frequency, and was a critical success, but not a financial success.
The player controls a ship called a “Beat Blaster” and flies it through a landscape divided into six tracks. Destroying the note gems scattered across each track produces music. Harmonix turned to crowdfunding to gain support and raise money for the reboot. The project was launched on Kickstarter on May 5th, 2014. The goal was set at $775,000, and was met on May 22nd. By the time the campaign ended, over $840,000 had been raised to fund the project.
Initially the developers sought to release Amplitude in March 2015, but were forced to delay the project several times over the year. The game has a soundtrack of over 30 songs, and includes a mixture of tracks from veteran producers such as Danny Baranowsky (Super Meat Boy, The Binding of Isaac) and C418 (Minecraft), as well as tracks from in-house Harmonix composers. It will also include songs from Kickstarter Backers, and, like the other two installments of the series, the soundtrack will also include a single from the synth-pop band, Freezepop.
The entire soundtrack of Amplitude is as follows:

Those familiar with the original Amplitude might remember that it got pretty freakin’ hard. The game is pretty easy to learn, but mastering it takes dedication. The developer promises that the reboot will feature the difficulty level that old fans know and love. They promise that fans of newer Harmonix projects will feel right at home with this project also… as long as they’re willing to put in work and hone their skills!
