Following the successful launch of the company’s first smart-phone app, Miitomo, Nintendo has announced that their next two mobile games will be Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem. Both “apps” are slated for a Fall 2016 release window and will be “pure game applications“. “Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo’s dedicated games business.”
Here’s what Nintendo said about the apps
“As for the former app, while making it more accessible in comparison to the Fire Emblem games for Nintendo’s dedicated gaming systems, Nintendo aims to offer the great value of a role-playing strategy game. Nintendo will design the latter game so that it will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems. By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increased enjoyment. “
Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are two huge I.P’s of Nintendo but it’s surprising for the company to use these franchises instead of more popular ones like Mario and/or Zelda. Whatever they plan to do for the apps, I’m sure that they will be made accessible so that kids and even grandmothers can enjoy it. The games will actually be “games” and will not simply be a social app like Miitomo is.
MIItomo has been downloaded over 10 million times which is considered a huge feat for the company. Let’s hope that these future titles will perform just as well once they release this Fall on iOS and Android.
