Have you ever found yourself short on time, but still in the mood to watch something? If so, you should really consider watching Senyu! I was instantly hooked by the first episode, and before I knew it, I had binge watched the whole first season. That’s not too bad since the episodes are so short. Each one only runs about five minutes in length, and if you take out the ending theme that leaves them at about 3-4 minutes long.
The story of Senyu is pretty simple. One day, a hole appeared, freeing demons into the world. This causes the King to immediately assume that the Demon King has been awakened from his one thousand year long slumber. To defeat him yet again, seventy five heroes thought to be descendants of Creasion, the man who originally sealed away the Demon King must come forward. But since a thousand years have passed, it’s Kind of hard to tell who his descendants are.
The backstory might sound serious, but don’t let that fool you. This anime is actually hilarious.
I feel that much of the appeal of this show comes from the characters and their interactions with each other. Alba and Ross are my two favorite characters by far. Alba is number 45 of the legendary hero’s 75 descendants, and is also the show’s protagonist. He is the “straight man” of the series, and is often the only one who points out the strange things going on around him, he’s also the victim of many of the other character’s antics. Ross is a royal soldier that was appointed by the king to be Alba’s companion. He’s openly sadistic, and often torments Alba just for entertainment.
Senyu was made to parody RPGs, and does so perfectly. The episodes sometimes felt a bit too short, but with comedy, timing is everything! The short length of each episodes keeps the jokes from dragging on too long, and keeps the humor quick and witty. If you’re open to watching something light hearted and genuinely funny, definitely give this show a try.
