At EA Play, we got a glimpse at the new Bioware game called Anthem. At the Xbox conference, they showed us around 5 minutes of gameplay running on the new Xbox One X. It’s pretty and looks fun, but the best thing is that it’s a new IP.
Anthem takes place in a futuristic setting where players have a selection of exo-suits to fly and run around the world completing quests. Gamers play as freelancers who leave the safety of what is most likely a “Hub World” to fight creatures and humans. Anthem is getting a lot of comparisons to other games such as Destiny and The Division. Some people hate that, but I don’t see it as a bad thing. Those games aren’t terrible and Bioware will give them a great story, which both Destiny and The Division were lacking.
One of the biggest things about Anthem is that it is GORGEOUS. Yes it was running on the new Xbox One X, it is definitely one of the best looking games of E3 so far, if not the best. The jungle environment looked stunning, and when the storm hits at the end of the video, it has truly amazing visuals. As well, the market area really showed off the lighting and the facial animations. So no Andromeda fiasco here.
We don’t know a whole lot about Anthem yet. But the biggest thing is NEW IP. A completely new game from a well-known and hard-hitting developer, Anthem has gripped many gamers attention. And with a Fall 2018 release date, there is plenty of time for Bioware to show us more, and hopefully a beta. With at least 4 player co-op, random Public events (similar to Destiny), and customization with the exo-suits, Anthem should be a game to keep on your watch list.
