Horizon Zero Dawn has been getting rave reviews and critics and fans across the globe are lapping up the lush environment and giant mechs that are on offer. The question on a lot of people’s lips could be “When’s the sequel?”. The Producer of the game, Samrat Sharma, sat down to discuss the future of Horizon Zero Dawn.
It came as a shock to me to learn the game took the team 6 years to create, not in a bad way, it’s just clear Guerilla has put their hearts and souls into it. I’ve not played myself but fellow writer Marissa has already raved about the protagonist of the game, Aloy and I’ve watched various YouTube videos, it looks stunning.
Now it’s clear the team have a big decision ahead if they plan on making a sequel, there will be a lot riding on it’s shoulders and I think it’s safe to say it won’t be anytime in the next few years. Sharma did have this to say in regards to the lore and foundations of the game:
“The team has a lot of faith in the character and the world we’ve created and there’s a lot of lore that we have that people haven’t seen yet. But we haven’t really sat down and decided what to do next. There are different machines that we have seen certain behaviours of, that we know have other behaviours that they can exhibit. There are different tribes we’ve seen, and facets to those tribes we haven’t discovered. There are bits of the lore that we know are there, but they’re not in the game, because we didn’t think they suited all the themes yet.”
The character of Aloy has been well received and Horizon Zero Dawn is set to become one of PlayStation’s biggest new IP’s, creating the characters, environment and giant mechs of the universe has surely played a huge part in that too so how did Sharma feel about the end result:
“It may sound cheesy to some but I think that there’s this vulnerable, yet capable girl who discovers who she is…she’s incredibly empathetic. As you play the side-quests and main quests, you realise she feels for humanity. She has this general unconditional love for everybody, that’s just who she is because of her circumstances.
She just wants to help people. In the face of incredible odds, in the face of giant machines shooting lasers at her she doesn’t stop helping people, she continues doing that. In her quest to find who she is she helps so many people. That’s a universal truth of what humanity aspires to be.”
