Marvel Entertainment made all of the fanboys and girls squeal when they released the official poster for Avengers: Age of Ultron. The sequel to the highly praised release of The Avengers (2012), directed by Joss Whedon. All of our beloved heroes are back: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, with each returning cast members respectively. The poster also features newcomers Scarlet Witch and her brother Quicksilver (played by Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson), with Paul Bettany also cast as Vision.
However, the biggest reveal was towards the bottom. Fan-favorite, Cobie Smulders is also reprising her role as Agent Maria Hill, but the three names that were in the rumor mill have now been confirmed:
Hayley Atwell – The SSR Agent Peggy Carter, who is now starring in her own standalone series on ABC
Idris Elba – Heimdall, the golden gatekeeper from Thor’s realm
Anthony Mackie – The winged companion to the Cap in Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The summary for the movie is as follows:
“When Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program, things go terribly awry, forcing him, Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the rest of the Avengers to reassemble. As the fate of Earth hangs in the balance, the team is put to the ultimate test as they battle Ultron (James Spader), a technological terror hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they encounter two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff.” (IMDB)
The events of the movie are said to set the stage for the next phase in the Marvel franchise, leading up to the most anticipated event: The Civil War. If you haven’t checked out the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, check out the video posted below. The movie is set to release on May 1st, 2015.
