According to the latest leaks to surface from Japanese gaming media outlet Famitsu, game developer/ publisher Bandai Namco is currently in-development on a new Godzilla title, currently slated to release on the PlayStation 3 later this winter.
According to reports, the game is said to be an action title, with the player assuming the controls of Godzilla, itself. Players will be able to use Godzilla’s monstrous size and strength, as well as his trademark abilities to knock down buildings and enemies. Also, Famitsu goes on to note that the team working on the Godzilla PS3 title at Bandai Namco were inspired a great deal by the S.H.MonsterArts figures, so you can kind of get an idea of what incarnation of Godzilla to expect. Development of the game is said to currently be at 40% completion.
The gigantic monster, who first appeared nearly 60 years ago in the Toho-produced Gojira/ Godzilla. The embodiment of nuclear terror in Japanese cinema during a time when the country itself was recovering from it’s own nuclear fallout, Godzilla would become a international hit, spawning over 29 sequels, including various “Vs.” spin-offs, as well as appearing in multiple video games, TV shows, comic books and novels. The character resurfaced earlier this year in the successful Warner Bros./ Legendary Pictures-produced Godzilla, which was met with generally positive reviews from both critics, as well as fans. A sequel film has already been confirmed by the WB to be in the works.
