Bayonetta was a massive hit when it was first released in 2009, it garnered a cult following for the feisty protagonist Cereza and her bad ass attitude. She did have a habit of always staying beautifully eloquent though.
Bayonetta 2 came as a Wii U exclusive and was released in 2014 so there was quite a large gap between the two. It reached a much less wider audience mainly because of the console it launched on, however I got to play both and enjoyed them very much…I’d go as far as to say the sequel actually improve a lot upon its predecessor.
Platinum Games, the masterminds behind the series, are always discussing the possibility of a Bayonetta 3 and in a recent interview Atsushi Inaba had this to say:
“Maybe there would be a male Bayonetta! (laughs). I would like to make Bayonetta 3. We’re talking within the company even now about what to do. But because we’re constantly talking about it, that actually makes it really hard to say. If we weren’t talking about it, we could just say something random or offhand, you know, but because we’re actually talking about it…Of course, that’s just something that you talk about when you’re making a series – do you want to keep the same protagonist? There’s plenty of precedent for changing protagonists, and so that is something we discuss – do we want to keep the same one, have a different one, add new ones – but that’s certainly not anything I can say for sure at this point.”
It sounds like in the future there could be a new protagonist if the game ever did see the light of day. It’s a positive thing to hear that they don’t just want to throw random comments around about it as well which gives me hope that the game may actually see fruition.
