Ubisoft closed out their E32017 Press conference in a beautiful way. An incredible trailer was shown off for Beyond Good & Evil 2 and it encompassed everything I’ve ever wanted in a game. The emotion, the action, the visuals, the dialogue… If this is any indication of how the game will be, I see a perfect title in our future. Check out the trailer for Beyond Good & Evil 2 below. Be warned, the announcement trailer uses some intense NSFW language.
Michel Ancel is returning as creative director on Beyond Good and Evil 2. Though we don’t have much information about the game or its direction, it was amazing how many people were enraptured by the short story within the teaser trailer we were shown.
First things first, this trailer is gorgeous. The world within it is so deeply involved, that there’s a story around every corner. It’s a vast, living, breathing environment that we’re introduced to, and it creates a ton of pressure for what exactly the final product of this game will be.
Of course, that final product is very far off, but we do know just a bit more about the prequel to the cult classic of old. As of right now, the game is on “day zero” development. Ancel and the team at Ubisoft Montpellier have been hard at work on some in-house technology to help create the game on the grand scale of their vision. That of course also means the game is a long way off.
As for the setting, we learned that the title is set in a distant solar system, called system 3. System 3 is newly colonized and will feature a “multi-ethnic, multicultural” society that functions as a trade hub in the milky way. This is of course a completely different setting from the original Beyond Good and Evil release. The information is exciting though, and based on some of the art and character designs, I can’t wait to see what manner of beautiful diversity this game has to offer down the road.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 was my stand-out title from E3 this year. With some much passion, love and potential behind this game it’s sure to be an amazing ride when it arrives. The only problem is, who knows when that will be.
