If you’re anything like me, creating a character is one of the hardest parts of starting a new game. I’m notorious for being indecisive, which means I can sometimes spend hours on character customization. When I first watched videos on Black Desert, and got a sneak peek of what making a character is like, I knew I’d be at it for a while. Luckily, the developer, Daum Games, released the Black Desert character creator on Tuesday, which means I can knock out the process ahead of time.
One of Black Desert’s biggest selling points is it’s wonderfully detailed character creator. I’ve made two different characters now. One by using presets and tweaking certain features, and one by editing every little detail on the character. Both characters came out beautifully. There’s definitely potential to make some really awesome or pretty crazy looking avatars. The best part is that we’ll be able to import our characters into the full game once it’s finally released! If you’re lucky enough to get into the second beta test starting February 18th, you’ll be able to use the character for that as well.
With the launch of the character creator, Daum games is also holding a Beauty and the Beast event. This event is actually a contest to see who can create the most “beastly” avatar. The contest will run from January 26th to February 5th. Prizes for winners will include a key to Black Desert’s second open beta, as well as some in-game currency with the launch of the game. They are also giving out an in-game costume and title just for participating!
After messing around with the character creator for a while, I can say that yes, it’s amazing. I’m really impressed with the level of detail that it has. For me, the biggest disappointment came from the lack of diverse hairstyles. I’m the type that makes my avatar look as much like me as possible. While it’s not really a necessity, games definitely win a few points with me when they include a couple curly, afro, or braided hairstyles. I’m hoping they add a few by the time the game is released.
