On August 16th, a new game by Plastic and Santa Monica Studio called Bound was released to the Playstation 4 and instantly received praise for its artistic design, gameplay mechanics, and it’s inventive, in-game photo mode that allows players to capture beautiful moments as they progress through the story. So it does not come as a surprise that the two companies are holding a photo competition for users to take advantage of this feature.
If you are unfamiliar with Bound, I have a lot of good things to say about it. I’ve played it and plan on playing it many more times. The story is a combination of intriguing, with hints of curiosity and tragedy sprinkled through out. But as you enter the abstract scenes of Bound, you play as a Princess in a decaying world that you must piece back together as you discover the story of your mother and a monster ripping the kingdom’s core apart.
I won’t go into too much more detail about the story. I don’t want to give away any spoilers. But I will explain a bit more about this photo mode. As soon as you start playing, you are told how to open up the mode. From there, you play around, taking pictures, adjusting focus, filters, panning, even turning the Princess on and off so that you can take pictures of the environment. Then you simply press your share button and do with it what you will.
Since Bound was first released, both Santa Monica and Plastic have been sharing the community pictures on their twitter pages, but now you can put your skills to the test in a friendly competition.
For full details, you should visit the contest website, but for a brief summary, here’s what you do. Go follow Santa Monica Studio on twitter. Take pictures. Tweet the pictures (using “#BoundPhotoContestEntry”). Then wait for Plastic to judge your art. You can enter 4 images to the contest, but before you rush to submit, you have until September 4th, and you may want to check out the pictures they have on the contest site for inspiration. You’re gonna have to get creative, so don’t be afraid to take lots of pictures. And quite honestly, it’s addicting, so you will be using this feature a lot.
But you’ll have to go up against me. Plastic is giving away a 3D sculpture of the Princess, and the need is real. An undisclosed amount of runner-ups will receive a signed print, so don’t worry, it’s not an all-or-nothing situation. Good luck! But not too much luck because I legit want that statue.
Got some photos you want to share with us? Please do! I can’t get enough of this game and would love to see…and also spy on my potential competition.
