After the success of Destiny‘s current cross-buy promotion, Activision has decided to apply the same promotion model towards it’s upcoming release, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, that allows gamers that purchase a last-gen edition of the game to redeem a free next-gen upgrade, for a limited time!
So here’s how it’s gonna works: between the game’s launch until March 31st, 2015, when you purchase Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare via the online games marketplace on your last-gen console of choice, you will also be allowed to download the game via that hardware company’s respective next-gen counterpart, for free. For example: Xbox 360 owners who download COD: Advanced Warfare on Xbox Live will be allowed to redeem for a digital copy of the Xbox One version and PS3 owners towards the digital PlayStation 4 edition via PlayStation Network.
But that’s not all: Not only will you receive a free copy of the game on your next-gen platform, but all your character stats, weapons, perks… everything will also transfer over towards your next-gen copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. Expansion packs and season passes purchased on last-gen will transfer as well, and the game’s license will continue to be valid on both of your Xbox or PlayStation consoles – meaning if you have friends that don’t have a next-gen console, you can continue to rank-up your character along with them on the last-gen consoles and hop back-and-forth to play between your older and newer gaming systems.
