Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker has done a very odd thing with the Super Mario 3D World levels that featured in the Wii U’s original outing. They’re gone. There is now no trace of these levels in the upcoming Switch and 3DS versions of the game.
In their place are some newly inspired levels from the superb Super Mario Odyssey universe, we already knew these were included but this is the first time Nintendo have officially announced that the new levels are actually replacing existing ones.
In the Wii U version you could unlock them by getting 100% on every level or if it picked up on you having Super Mario 3D World save data.
They’ve also seemingly removed all traces of Cat Mario and Peach from the game, so you won’t be finding those retro style nods either. I do find that strange considering they’re completely adorable and fit the “cutesy Toad aesthetic” perfectly.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will be launching on 3DS and Nintendo Switch July 13th, which is just a matter of weeks away! Will you be picking the game up on launch day? Or have you already played through the Wii U version? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @WtfGamersOnly.
