There is a war, a console war. And I, as a tiny gamer, would like to know why.
An artist has an open mind and is aware of other artists, but he does not base his own off of others. One cannot compare Robert Frost with Edgar Allen Poe nor Vincent Van Gogh and Winslow Homer. So what is the big deal with consoles? These were all created for the same reason: entertainment. The battle of the consoles are things I’ve more heard than seen, I just don’t get it. Why hate something that you can hold in your hand or plug into a television that offers you different stories, settings and sounds? Multiple companies have offered us different games and styles and we’re complaining over who’s is better?
I have never had the pleasure of playing on the original Atari or ColecoVision, but I am familiar with a few of their games. I can just imagine the excitement of being able to finally play games on your own television. However I was raised with both a Super Nintendo and a Sega Genesis. Is this where the war started? Was it earlier? I can tell you right now how ridiculous this all is! How can Donkey Kong Country and Golden Axe and all other games that coincide with each console be compared? They cannot!
Jumping ahead to the “big war” I do know about. Xbox and PlayStation. Seriously guys? Guys meaning no specific gender. Seriously? What’s the beef? Sure not everyone is in on the war, but if you’re not a PS guy don’t let me catch you with a Sony television or any other merchandise. Just like if you’ve talked crap about anime and go see Ghost In The Shell I’m also going to be silently judging you. That’s for another discussion. Sure the consoles and controllers are different, sure not everyone could afford both, or you don’t want both. But please oh please don’t hate on a fellow gamer for having different tastes and likes. Same with music, also for another discussion. Exclusives per console alone should be enough reason to try both. If not that, then the new friends, the experience, and endless entertainment.
It’s difficult being in the middle of a console war with my brother and boyfriend, I’ve learned to play and to appreciate multiple platforms and I’m sure everyone else can too. The console wars are getting old, hating someone for liking different things should be extinct. The gaming community could be so much better if everyone praised each other for their being individuals rather than talk smack for not being the same.
