We have known about Quantic Dreams Detroit: Become Human for quite some time now. So it came as no surprise when the game was showed off again tonight. What wasn’t expected was that it would deliver such an epic trailer. Considering that this is the third conference that we have seen this game, it is quite impressive that it continues to make such an impression.
The trailer shown provided a mix of game play and cut-scenes that showcased the story. We are introduced to yet another new playable character Marcus, an AI who is sick of humans treating AI as worker drones. We see him and his accomplice come up to a building labeled Cyber Life, a store that sells AI units. As Marcus plans to break in and free the AI units inside we are given glimpses at how the characters special abilities are able to interact with the environment around him.
Game play elements look to be very similar to Quantic Dreams other titles Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls. You will be interacting with the environment around you in different ways that will not only effect game play, but story elements as well. This is displayed best when the situation heats up and an officer runs over several of the AI to stop their rioting. However, when one of Marcus’s followers hands him a gun it becomes up to the player to choose to react violently, peacefully, or not at all. It also looks as if you may have been able to avoid the situation all together based on earlier choices made in the scene.
Needless to say the game looks gorgeous and the story looks to be delivering a controversial, but relevant message which is always refreshing in games. The biggest downside to the trailer is that we still do not have an official release date which is a shame, considering players have seen more than enough of this game to make them excited about its release. How much longer must we wait? Sadly it looks to be a while, but if it delivers on everything we have seen so far then the wait will have been well worth it.
