Rumors of Diablo 3 cross-play were running wild all across the internet after a representative of Blizzard told Business Insider that the feature was “a question of when not if.” However, it looks like cross-play may not be coming as soon as many fans were hoping.
When ComicBook.com reached out to Blizzard the company had this to say, “While we love the idea of bringing our players together across platforms, we do not have any plans to implement cross-platform gameplay for Diablo at this time.”
This, of course, makes the Blizzard representatives statement with Business Insider sound more like a pipe dream than a reality. While it is still very possible that Diablo 3 cross-play could happen in the future, it most definitely won’t be happening as soon as many fans were speculating.
Some thought that the feature would be announced as soon as next month’s Blizzcon. Others were even predicting that cross-play could become a reality as soon as the release of Diablo 3 on Nintendo Switch.
With Blizzard denying that they have any current plans in the works, it’s most likely that we won’t see any Diablo 3 cross-play this year. Don’t let it get you down though because Blizzard does know how bad the fans want it.
Blizzard told ComicBook.com that they are onboard with the idea. And we all know that if any company can make a platform bend to its will on a feature like cross-play, a gaming juggernaut like Blizzard could most likely accomplish the task.
Meanwhile, Diablo fans will have to be patient. It’s just gonna be so hard to wait when everyone knows that Diablo 3 cross-play would be oh so sweet.
