Sony’s E3 2018 presentation gave us our first real look at Ghost of Tsushima, the next PS4 exclusive coming from Sucker Punch who is the creative mind behind the Infamous franchise. Ghost of Tsushima is a samurai action title with open world elements and some impressive looking swordplay. Check out the trailer for yourself below.
Keeping in line with every exclusive Sony showed off today, Ghost of Tsushima is a beautiful game. The demo starts off with the text, “Mongol Invasion, day nine.” This title is set in 1274 with our main hero being Jin Sakai, a samurai who is fighting a war with the Mongols invading the island of Tsushima.
Early into the gorgeously rendered demo, we see our first bit of swordplay as Jin comes upon three swordsmen terrorizing some innocents. Jin waits for his enemy to attack and unleashes the classic samurai one-slash to fell his foe. It looked awesome. From there, we see a bit of how the mechanics might work with blocking, dodging and parrying being the primary modes of defense while it seems you’ll have several different means of attack.
From here we see an assault on a small stronghold to rescue a monk who has been captured by Mongol soldiers. During this segment we see Jin making use of some kind of grappling hook to scale the structure and sneak attack the guards from above. What follows that seems to be an ability similar to Assassins’s Creed where you can chain your assassinations and it was a beautiful bit of camera work and action. For a final push to end this demo, we see a companion turning on Jin which leads to a sword fight with a ridiculously vibrant backdrop. More of the combat from a one on one perspective is shown and it looks as though this game will have some tense encounters.
Ghost of Tsushima has no release date as of yet, but anyone who wasn’t interested before sure is now after that amazing showing.
