Campaign modes that feature robust storylines seem to be the latest trend in EA’s line of EA Sports games. During their E3 2017 conference, EA introduced us to quite a few awesome titles to look forward to. However, what really stood out to me were its three major sports games. During the conference, we were able to catch our first look at FIFA 18, Madden 18, and NBA Live 18. All three of these titles feature what appears to be very promising campaign modes with engaging stories to get players hooked.
Let’s kick things off with one of the most well know EA franchises, FIFA 18. This year’s release of the title seeks to pick things up where FIFA 17 left off. Alex Hunter is back and your journey continues. Once again the decisions you make while playing will directly affect your career as well as the interactions you have with other characters. One other thing to look forward to aside from a well developed storyline, is more character customization options for Alex. FIFA 18 is releasing for the PS4, XBOX One, and PC. It is set to hit shelves on September 26th in the U.S and on September 29th everywhere else. It is also worth noting that a “special edition” of FIFA will be releasing for the Nintendo Switch later on as well.
EA keeps the ball rolling by introducing us to Madden 18 and its new story mode Longshot. Fans of the series can expect an extremely engaging storyline to compliment their campaign mode for the first time in Madden history. Players will take control of Devin Wade, “a forgotten college star, played by Jr Lemon [who] returns home to peruse his dreams and find football redemption.” The campaign promises to be that of cinematic quality, featuring voice acting by the likes of Moonlight’s Mahersala Ali, and Friday Night Light’s Scott Porter. Madden 18 is scheduled for release on August 25th but those who pre-order The G.O.A.T. Edition will be granted early access starting Tuesday August 22nd.
Finishing off EA’s story driven line up is NBA Live 18. While there has been a bit of controversy surrounding the title due to continuous delays, EA makes up for that with a new refreshing take on the game’s campaign mode called The One. This year NBA Live is allowing players the freedom to dominate both The League and The Streets. The League is a classic take on the series in which the goal is to work your way up the ranks of the NBA and earn the ring. The Streets offers players the opportunity to put some respect on their names by playing at real world locations and going up against NBA stars on the black top. Oh, and we can’t forget about the customization options available too. Gear, abilities, skills, traits and playstyles can all be altered to your desire. The official release date has not been revealed just yet but a free demo will be available on PSN and XBOX Live in August. So, do you have what it takes to be The One?
