Passing away far before his prime, there’s no doubt that Bruce Lee’s influence has touched the lives of millions worldwide. Even today, over 40 years after his passing, his legend shines brighter than ever and still continues to have an impact on current pop culture – watch TV and you’d be hard-press to deny his re-emerging presence in various sponsorships. So when EA Sports and the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that “The Dragon” would be playable in the upcoming EA SPORTS UFC video game for PS4 & Xbox One, the internet, newsmedia and fans alike went completely nuts, elated at the possibility to “Be Bruce Lee”.
Today, EA Sports has released a new trailer in their continuing EA SPORTS UFC Gameplay Series, featuring current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones, UFC Lightweight Champion Anthony Pettis & UFC President Dana White as they reflect on what the Martial Arts tactician’s concepts and ideals mean to them and the honor of having such an iconic master (and whom many consider to be the originator of MMA) as an in-game playable character.
“…So deep, the things us martial artists draw up today, he came up with a lot of that stuff, like ‘where do you come up with this stuff?!?'” said Jones, when reflecting on Lee’s impact in his sport. UFC president White also commented, “..I think the world of Mixed Martial Arts was started by Bruce Lee.” He continues “just Bruce Lee’s image alone… is very powerful.”
EA SPORTS UFC Creative Director also stresses that Bruce Lee’s in-game look, moves list and mannerisms will be as authentic as structurally possible, stating, “We want to make sure you feel that speed… that power… that agility, that he was known for. We want to make sure that when you control Bruce Lee in the octagon, you FEEL like “The Dragon.” The latest trailer also includes never-before-seen in-game footage of “The Dragon” Bruce Lee in action.
EA SPORTS UFC is available June 17th, 2014 for PlayStation 4 & Xbox One gaming consoles. Gamers can access Bruce Lee early by pre-ordering the game or by defeating the game’s Career Mode on “Pro” difficulty.
