While PlayStation and Switch fans are claiming to be having all the fun, you should never count out the competition. The Xbox is set to have a good 2017 with a few console exclusives in the works. Titles such as Halo Wars 2 and Crackdown 3 are available now or on the horizon, while indie titles are available or making their way to the console as well. Check out some of the games coming to your Xbox One and rejoice!
I’m going to start the list with some of my favorite and most anticipated titles coming to the Xbox One this year, and yes they’re exclusives. Power on and get ready for some great additions to your Xbox library starting with:
I was lucky enough to play this title at E3 when it was first announced and MY GOODNESS it is the perfect nostalgia trip. A blend of style, nostalgia, and difficulty makes Cuphead one of the most anticipated Xbox titles coming out this year. Cuphead is a platformer that reflects the run-and-gun shoot em up side scroller style, with plenty of boss battles thrown in. It’s a 1930’s style title that you’ll love from sound, to aesthetic to gameplay. Make sure to look out for it.
Cuphead is developed by Studio MDHR and will be released Mid-2017.
State of Decay 2
I loved the original State of Decay. It was a mixture of action-adventure, simulation, survival-horror style game with elements from Grand Theft Auto to Left 4 Dead 2. Developed by Undead Labs and Microsoft Studios, I spent so many hours running through the story, making sure my characters survived (when they died you would take on the roll of your next recruit) and upgrading our base of operations. It was a ton of fun but it was missing one thing… Multiplayer. Unveiled at E3 2016 was State of Decay 2. The game that would improve on the already addicting title, and add the one missing element, multiplayer. Playing the game with cooperative multiplayer means State of Decay becomes even closer to titles like H1Z1, except you’ll be able to play with your friends couch co-op style. The original State of Decay is one of the best zombie games, so I’m excited for State of Decay 2.
State of Decay 2 is being developed by Undead Labs and is set to release sometime in 2017.
Sea of Thieves:
This is an action-adventure title developed by the amazing people at RARE. You know the ones, they gave us Banjo-Kazooie and Yooka-Laylee among so many other classic titles. They’re back and this time they’re letting us be pirates. In what looks to be one of the most fun exclusives coming out this year, Sea of Thieves is a “shared-world adventure game” that will allow players and their crew to play however they want. come join our crew when the game is released.
Sea of Thieves is being developed by Rare and has an expected release of sometime this year, 2017.
The open world action-adventure game will be available sometime in 2017. It’s being developed by Regeant Games and it’s “sandbox mayhem and destruction.” You’ll be thrust into a dangerous futuristic city with destructible environments and awesome multiplayer gameplay.
Crackdown 3 is from developer Reagent Games and will be available some time in 2017.
Some other titles we can expect for the Xbox One include:
Pit People – From the creators of Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid, Pit People is an action-rpg title from developer The Behemoth. Pit People is available now.
Tacoma – From the creators of Gone Home, developer Fullbright have another title on their hands. Tacoma is set in space and its a mystery game. It’s set to be available Spring 2017.
Halo Wars 2 – Available now, Halo Wars 2 is the real-time strategy sequel to Halo Wars. From developer 343 Industries, it’s the continuation of Captain Cutter.
Phantom Dust – A re-release of the original 2004 action-strategy title. Phantom Dust is developed by Code Mystics and was a cult hit on the Xbox. It’s due out for release sometime this year.
