For those who don’t know, Metal Gear Online (MGO) launched for everyone who has Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. And of course, I just had to play since I’m a huge fan of Metal Gear. Also the last time I played Metal Gear Online was when everyone was playing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
So, after downloading the update and Metal Gear Online to my PS4, I quickly wanted to play online. After a quick and easy tutorial of the menu set up for MGO, you have to pick 1 of 3 classes that you have to stay with and you can’t switch between them. Once you reach a high enough level you get to make other characters that can be a different class.
When it came time to start playing, I had to wait about 30 minutes for the game to search for a lobby for me to get into. Once I actually got started playing, it just felt so natural to me after playing the main story for so long. A tip I would recommend is that for you to look for open lobbies to join because there are some that are private.
Gameplay wise, it really reminds me of past SOCOM games on how you really have to coordinate with your teammates. This really is a game you can’t just run and gun in because people will spot you really fast, making you an easy target. One aspect of the game is when you get into the Walker Gears, those things are like tanks but you have to make sure you watch your back because it’s exposed.
Overall it is a lot of fun and I’m going to keep on playing it. It’s a breath of fresh air, since almost every online game that I play is a first person shooter and it’s nice to play a third person shooter this time around.
