2016 was a crazy year, am I right? But with Thanksgiving over and Christmas looming just ahead, there was a lot of good for gamers. And by far, this year’s E3 was my favorite moment of 2016.
E3 is one of the most exciting times for gamers and members of the industry. From the elite companies like Sony and Microsoft, to small independent developers who showcase the future of the indie scene, you are guaranteed to hear an announcement or piece of news that makes you jump for joy, freak out, or budget for how broke the new line-up of games is going to make you. But this year, E3 was a thousand times more special than any before.
First off, I had just started writing for WTF Gamers Only. Like had just been here two weeks. Green as you can be. So when I got offered a ticket to go and cover the event, I immediately took it. I got to meet a few of the amazing people who I work along side everyday (…but not my sweet prince, Jerel…) and test some incredible games! I had the oppurtunity to play with professional Overwatch teams…and humiliate myself because it was all on PC. It all was a major blast though.
But, this is a gaming news site, not a personal blog for me to spew my feel good gratitude all over. So I think it’s important to shift gears and talk about my favorite trailer of the year. Despite my coverage on Death Stranding and Battlefield 1, there is a title that got me more excited than anything else. Well…okay, only slightly more excited than Last Of Us Part 2. And that was the unvieling of a second Detriot: Become Human trailer.
I’ve written quite a bit about Detriot before, so I won’t go too deep into the game or my knowledge of it’s background, but this project has been on my mind for YEARS! Long before 2016 was even on my radar. The imagery and emotion portrayed by Valorie Curry as an andriod who, by some chance, has gained conciousness stunned me. It was sad, it was empowering, and it spoke of a world that now…doesn’t seem too far off. So to see yet another trailer for the newest David Cage piece nearly brought me to tears…or maybe it was the cut up onion next to me. The police are still investigating.
I knew, IMMEDIATELY, this was the game. At least, the one I was most looking forward too. I had hoped we would have heard more this year, but it is really the trailer I am most thankful for.
Detriot: Become Human can’t come fast enough. And casting all of the fun I had with this incredible team aside, it was the news highlight of my 2016 year. Sorry Ellie…
