Final Fantasy XIV has had a playable demo available for players wanting to try the game for free. The demo was available for players to try the game for a total of 14-days before having to pay to play. Players can now play the game without a time limit, but that doesn’t mean they can play indefinitely.
Players who try the free demo can now play their characters up to level 35. That’s right, you can take as long as you’d like to get there, because there is no longer a time limit. Similar to the model World of Warcraft follows now, letting players play for free until level 20, Final Fantasy XIV gives you an extra 15 levels, which admittedly will help you get the feel for whatever job you choose to play within the world.
Surprisingly, you can level one character up to 35, start over and make another character, and continue another adventure to the same free level-cap. The free level-cap restriction applies to all your characters, and you can play the game with up to 8 different characters, and level them all to 35 before you’re asked to pay.
On top of playing, you’ll gain access to the Gold Saucer (an area where you can try your hand at a bunch of mini-games including lottery type cards, Triple Triad card matches and Chocobo Racing) as well as the Deep Dungeon (better known as Palace of the Dead)
Free trial members will be able to participate in the first 10 levels of Palace of the Dead, an ever-changing dungeon crawl that will allow players to try out jobs from level one as well as gain gear and loot.
With Stormblood, the next FFXIV expansion on the horizon, it’s a great time to try out the classic jobs in the game and see how you feel after the first 35 levels. The world is huge, so removing the time restriction is the best way to really get a feel for the game, and on your own time. See you all in Eorzea.
