The biggest news was probably the introduction of a Deep Dungeon called “The Palace of the Dead,” a new dungeon that will allow players to go in SOLO. That’s right, the first solo dungeon was introduced. Coming in Patch 3.35, “The Palace of the Dead” will be a new dungeon that has a continuously changing layout. The dungeon will scale with players, starting at level 1 with an independent progression system, it will be available for between 1 and 4 players, with boss encounters on multiple floors. This “bottomless dungeon” will have an army of recurring undead, and the dungeon is protected by magic that creates the ever changing layout. The dungeon will auto-save level progression on certain levels, while death will return you to the latest dungeon level that was saved. While item level doesn’t work within the dungeon, status bonuses will be granted, though they can work against you within the dungeon as well. It’ll be interesting to see just how well this plays out, though as of now it looks like a great challenge.
A very popular question for FFXIV was whether we’d get gender-neutral clothing options. To that request, Mr. Yoshida suggested that players go onto the forums and request what gear they would like to see made unisex. He did say that he’d get to work on making bunny ears gender neutral, due to audience request. It look as if the team is looking into making this happen, so get on the forums and make your requests.
Speaking of appearance changes, the team is currently working on allowing Summoners to change the appearance of their pets. Starting with Carbuncle, they’re working on providing a new appearance per patch.
A mobile app is in the works, one that will allow players to access their retainers and the market board outside of the game. The app also promises to provide Linkshell access, which will enable players to speak to their Free Company clans outside of the game as well. The hope is for the app to be available before the next expansion pack.
For those curious about flight in old areas, while Mr.Yoshida didn’t outright dismiss the idea, he did state that doing so might distract from the content and delay work on the next expansion pack, with which they’re working on new maps for.
As for crossover content, the crossover between Phantasy Star Online 2 was mentioned, as Odin’s appearance made it possible that gear and other items from Phantasy Star Online 2 may find their way in FFXIV. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s a possibility. Also, Mr.Yoshida mentions that there will be more crossover events similar to the Lightning Strikes event where we will see other Final Fantasy characters making their way to Eorzea.
