Earlier this week, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius became available worldwide for download on iOS and Android devices. In Japan, the game has been available since October of 2015, and already has over 6.5 million players. This turn based action RPG is a spin-off of the Final Fantasy franchise, and is the first collaborative effort from Square Enix and developer, A-Lim. It draws elements from both the Final Fantasy series, and A-Lim’s previous title, Brave Frontier.
Brave Exvius has an original storyline, and a new cast of characters to go along with it. Simply put, It follows the journey of two young knights, Rain and Lasswell, as they attempt to save their world from being destroyed. Along the way players can team up with Cecil, Vaan, Vivi, and other heroes from past Final Fantasy games. In addition to this, classic summons like Ifrit and Shiva have made a return.
I’ve been playing Brave Exvius a bit over the last few days, and it’s a lot of fun. There are towns to explore, and NPCs to interact with, and quite a bit of loot and rare items to collect. Like many other mobile games, it also has an energy system. Once the player has run out of stamina, they either have to wait or pay real money to continue playing. Luckily, this doesn’t start right away, and you’re able to play until level 5 before this mechanic kicks in.
As celebration for the launch, players will receive a bunch of free items if they sign up before July 17th. This includes access to Final Fantasy 6’s Terra in Magitek armor.
If you’re into mobile games or you really like Final Fantasy, I’d say this game is worth a try. If you’d rather just wait for Final Fantasy XV to hit consoles, just hang tight– September 30th isn’t that far away
