For those who haven’t heard yet, a Final Fantasy trading card game hit store shelves late last year and has done well enough that two more expansions and new structure decks have been announced for 2018.
The first expansion to hit in 2018 is the Opus V expansion which will hit card and game shops on March 23rd. The box features Lightning so it is safe to assume that there will be some more Final Fantasy XIII cards in this expansion. However, the Final Fantasy TCG website specifies that there will be exclusive illustrations by Akira Oguroa and Ryoma Ito for Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 cards. Both of which are games that have not been featured heavily in previous expansions.
Some of the most exciting news to come from the announcement are three new structure decks featuring Final Fantasy XII, XIII, and, XIV that are set to release the same day as the Opus V expansion. The structure decks in Final Fantasy TCG have become known for being quite good compared to other TCGs on the market. These decks do feature exclusive cards that can only be obtained through the structure decks as well as multiple copies to use for deck building. So to have three new ones is especially exciting. Not to mention this will be the first time that both Final Fantasy XII and XIV will have received a major expansion in the Final Fantasy TCG.
Lastly, on July 13th, the Opus IV expansion is planned to hit store shelves. Which is a little while from now, but promising for the future of the game. The Final Fantasy TCG released its first set Opus I on October 28th, 2016. Since then the game has garnered a good following and has become known for its unique gameplay and incredible card quality. If you are a fan of Final Fantasy and have not played the TCG it comes highly recommended by myself.
