In preparation for Final Fantasy XIV’s upcoming expansion, Stormblood, I thought that I should come share some of my opinions on what has been talked about in the Live Letters.
Visual Job Gauges – One of the things that I personally thought highly of was the idea and introduction of Visual Gauges. These Visual Gauges are supposed to help depict stuff like what Stance you’re in, what stacks you have, and when you can use certain abilities. They are meant to replace the numerical gauges that the game currently has. It is such a small change that it won’t really have a negative effect on the game, where its primary purpose is to help combat micro-ing become much easier.
Upgraded Spell Replacement – There was a point where they talked about spells like Stone 1, Stone 2, and Stone 3 for the White Mage and how spells like these are going to automatically upgrade and replace themselves as the upgraded version gets learned. It’s another little thing but it just helps save spaces on the hotbar. I know you could always just remove the lower level ones off but what if you’re helping your low level mate out and when you jump in a dungeon or do a fate with them then you have to open up the skill menu and put it back on the hot bar. This in theory should help alleviate all of that and make it overall smoother.
I talked about some of the small life style changes but now let’s jump into one of the bigger things that I know has gotten a lot of love and hate… the Jump Potions.
Story Skip Potion – The Story Skip Potion makes it so that you jump to the end of the A Realm Reborn story line. It’s also said that after the release of StormBlood they will be dropping a jump potion that will jump you to the end of Heavensward. The Story Skip Potion will also level your current job up to level 50 (level 60 after the release of Stormblood). Now I personally hate the thought of the Story Skip Potion, because you’ve skipped the story and got a high level character so you have near no clue as to what you’re doing. Yes you could learn overtime but if you participate in any end-game stuff then you could hurt the people you are playing with. I can understand wanting to jump to the end of the game and join your mate and whatnot but I think there is a better solution and it’s called the Job Jump Potion…
Job Jump Potion – The Job Jump Potion sets the job of your choosing to level 50 (60 after Stormblood). So let’s say you’ve decided on getting the White Mage Jump Potion. The White Mages primary class, Conjurer, would be boosted up to level 50, while its secondary class, Arcanist, will be boosted up to level 15. You’ll be given gear to match the level and the White Mage Job Stone. The job quests will be done up to the level, and you’ll be given 300,000 Gil so that you can work on getting some better gear along with silver Chocobo feathers which can be exchanged for gear. The reason I think this potion is so much better is because you still have to go through the story and do the level locked story quests. This means that you still learn what your abilities are in the order the game teaches them while being able to clear the story at a much faster speed. You could easily clear A Realm Reborn in a day with a level 50 character. So in the end you learned that basics of your job and still caught up to your mates in a relatively short time.
Of course this isn’t even near everything that has been said about the upcoming Stormblood release. You can find most of the stuff about the FFXIV Live Letters on the FFXIV Reddit HERE.
