Since Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear franchise, went off to make his own game ‘Death Stranding‘ Konami has been hard at work developing a new game called Metal Gear Survive. Kojima had some choice words to say about said game during Tokyo Game Show 2016 this past week.Metal Gear: Survive is Konami’s new title that was developed without the creator of the franchise, Hideo Kojima. The game is a cooperative zombie shooter that takes place in an alternate universe set during the events of Metal Gear Solid V. The game is in 3rd-person and has you taking down massive amounts of zombies in typical Metal Gear fashion… not.
Kojima was present during TGS 2016 to talk about Death Stranding, his own game that is set to release sometime before 2019 exclusively for the PS4 or whatever system is out at the time. When asked whether the idea for Survive had come from Kojima himself, he replied, “That’s nothing to do with me! “The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage,” he adds “Where do zombies fit in with that?”
Yojo Shinkawa was also on stage with Kojima, Shinkawa was the former character and mechanical designer on the Metal Gear series. He is now part of Kojima productions working on Death Stranding; he also denied any kind of notion that he had any part in the development of Metal Gear: Survive stating that (joking), “If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it.”
Metal Gear: Survive is slated for release sometime next year while Kojima’s next game, Death Stranding, will be released sometime before 2019, specifically before the next Olympics. The game will feature some sort of online multiplayer and might have a female as the main character.
