My friends, one of the most hype time for gamers will be here in just a month. I am of course referring to E3 2017. If you somehow have never heard of E3, it is known as the Electronic Entertainment Expo. So, what does that mean? Put simply, it is a time when the entire gaming industry congregates to unveil their latest products, and gaming press gets to look and play. Long story short, we get to hear all kinds of cool game announcements!
So, what do I believe is coming out? What would I personally like? Let’s run down the list of major companies and play some guessing games!
Electronic Arts (EA)
Let’s start with one of the more famous (sometimes notorious) third-party game publishers, Electronic Arts, or EA for short. Last year, the EA Sports division showed off gameplay of their latest sports entries, and this year will assuredly be no different in that regard. In addition, EA announced the development of several Star Wars projects. Seems like this would be a good time to talk about them, no? With Star Wars Battlefront II coming up soon, that will certainly be on display.
Bethesda of Elder Scrolls and Fallout fame doesn’t always have a conference of their own, but when they do, you can be sure they have a lot to announce. Something new on the horizon regarding those aforementioned titles? New IPs? We’ll have to wait and see.
One of the three titans of the game industries, Microsoft, features announcements regarding both their consoles, their games, and recently, their PC gaming industry as well. Microsoft has many IPs with devoted followings, such as Halo and Gears of War. It is highly likely that we will see more info on existing series, but be warned. Microsoft always has some hidden games up their sleeves, if last year’s Sea of Thieves is any indication. And of course, Microsoft owes us some info on Project Scorpio, which was announced last year!
Alongside EA, Ubisoft is definitely one of the biggest third-party game developers. With hits like Just Dance, Tom Clancy, Assassin’s Creed, and more, surprises will be plentiful. While new entries of their big titles are assured, I personally also look forward to surprise new IPs, like For Honor.
Sony fires on all cylinders when it comes to their offerings. Between potentially giving gamers new info on hotly awaited games like The Last of Us 2, Days Gone, Spider-Man, and much more. Between the already announced games, expect some surprises like long-awaited sequels and interesting new IPs. Personally? I’m hoping we see some new info on Kingdom Hearts 3, given the series’ 15th anniversary.
Last but certainly not least, we have the final of the big three, Nintendo. Nintendo has not done a traditional press conference in the last few years, opting instead to do digital events, and then allowing players to play the announced games on the floor. Last year, Nintendo focused on the now released Breath of the Wild, but with a new system out in the wild, we can expect some big things from the Big N.
What new games can we expect for the new system? What more can we learn from already announced games like Super Mario Odyssey or Splatoon 2? Eyes will be on Nintendo as they show what’s coming for their new toy. My personal prediction? Given the dismal sales of the Wii U, ports of the more higher reviewed games might be in store.
