Yes, ladies and gentlemen; this is not a drill. After so many pushbacks, rumors, and fleeting hopes of an anime gone too soon, Attack on Titan has finally been slated to resume season 2 in April of 2017.
Originally expected to be released this year (2016), it was pushed-back in order to expand on the manga some more in hopes that further years-long delays like this could be avoided. And since its 2013 debut, the 25-episode series of Season One has reached cult-status in being one of the best of our time. A bloody, gory, action-packed display of freedom-fighters against the plight of the human race: Titans.
If you’ve never watched Attack on Titan, here’s a brief synopsis of the show. The story initially centers on Eren Yeager, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and childhood friend Armin Arlert, who join the military to fight the Titans after their home town is invaded. However, as the story progresses and the truths about the Titans are slowly revealed to the reader, the narrative shifts to encompass Historia Reiss, squad leader Levi, and other supporting characters.
Publisher Hajime Isayama confirmed the second season on the 21st Volume of the Attack on Titan Manga with a wraparound jacket band that marked the date.
After a live-action movie, an OVA, several video games, and side-story adaptations, fans are drawing a sigh of relief that hopefully this will be the date that sticks. No April Fool’s here, we hope!
