Recently Nintendo announced that their next two mobile games will take place in the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing universe. They will join Miitomo in the mobile realm before the end of the year. The president of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima, was asked some questions in a Q & A session following Nintendo’s financial results briefing for the fiscal year. He talks about why these franchises were chosen and what kinds of people will be playing them.Nintendo plans to release 5 mobile games before March 2017, including Miitomo. This means that there are two more games that we have no idea about. According to Kimishima, these two very different franchises were chosen so that the games can appeal to a wide mobile audience. He further explains on the subject “We chose Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem as titles to follow Miitomo from the viewpoint of increasing the diverse types of consumers interested in Nintendo, and widening opportunities for game play”.
The Animal Crossing series has been played by millions of people including women and children. Bringing a mobile version of the game to phones would attract these consumers where Fire Emblem will attract the “die-hard fans who have stuck to the series for a long time.”
The next mobile games will be also be franchises that are well-known everywhere. If the company isn’t bringing Mario out anytime soon, I would predict a Zelda, Metroid, or Kirby game to follow.
Nintendo’s first social app, Miitomo, has been downloaded over 10 million times and the users are balanced when it comes to gender. Nintendo plans to continue supporting the app with updates that are meant to cater to the users. The company is getting feedback and they are continually fixing them and making the app as best as it can be.
