During the Apple event today, Shigeru Miyamoto came on stage to reveal ‘Super Mario Run’, a mobile Mario game that will be coming to Apple devices this December. The game is akin to Ubisoft’s mobile Rayman titles, as it is an “automatic runner”. The game is not going to be free-to-play; price will be announced before the game launches.
Nintendo has managed to keep this game a secret. The company has stated that the only mobile titles that were launching this year would be from the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing franchises.
Super Mario Run is already visible on the Apple App Store, but of course, is not available to download. Instead, you can opt-in to get a notification once the game is out.
According to the app store description, you can play the entire game with only one hand because all you have to do is tap to jump with Mario. “In this game, you constantly move forward through the courses while using a variety of jumps to navigate…. show off smooth moves, gather coins, and reach the goal.”
The game will also feature three different types of game modes to choose from.
-” The first mode features challenging courses for you to complete.”
-“In the second mode, you challenge the play data of other people’s competed courses. You compete to see who can finish the course with the most style.”
-“In the third mode, you can create your own Mushroom Kingdom using coins collected by playing the first two game modes.”
In the description, it also states that the game will offer in-app purchases.
Super Mario Run will be headed to iOS first, which means that we will be seeing the game on Android some time after the initial launch.
