The cult classic PlayStation franchise, MediEvil is getting the remaster treatment on the PS4. This is certainly one of the more surprising announcements made at this years PSX. Especially considering that Sony has kept the franchise dormant for so long.
No release date or year was given to the newly announced remaster only a short teaser trailer followed by a screen saying there would be more details soon. When these details will come is not certain, but the safest bet is Sony’s E3 conference next year.
Out of all of Sony’s franchises to make a comeback MediEvil certainly seemed one of the least likely. Sir Daniel Fortesque has not made an appearance in video games since the 2012 PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale. The series last full installment was in 2005 on the PSP with MediEvil Resurrection.
Of course the franchise is most famous for its two installments on the PS1. For those unfamiliar with the series, MediEvil is a an action adventure game where players take control of the undead Sir Daniel Fortesque in a quest to defeat the evil wizard Zarok. Players collect a variety of weapons and complete challenges in order to retrieve Chalices in order to gain the power to defeat Zarok.
Many people had speculated that Spyro the Dragon might be PlayStation’s next revived series. Especially after the success of the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. It is exciting to see PlayStation pay homage to a lesser known IP and hopefully this means that we will see the revival of many more dormant PlayStation properties.
