Launching in the first half of September, both of these Capcom Mega Man action classics will be available on Sony PS3 and Vita for the first time. A PS4 release has not been announced but if the PlayStation Now service becomes a widespread reality soon then it would be available to stream digitally.
Dual release in the Americas on PS3 and Vita of Mega Man X4 on September 2nd is then closely followed by Mega Man X5 September 9th. Whether these dates remain true for Europe is unclear but is assumed. Price point is also currently unclear but will likely closely match the earlier releases on the Wii U Virtual Console. Mega Man X4 is a PSOne release originally but this update will come packing trophy support, although there is currently no word on whether or not a platinum will be up for grabs for all you trophy hunters out there.
The porting of both of these titles for Sony consoles will give Mega Man and Keiji Inafune fans added hope that further Mega Man titles, and the highly anticipated new indie IP Mighty No.9, will migrate across to both home consoles and Vita. In additional Might No.9 news, Inafune has stated that it is designed to be a multimedia IP expanding beyond games and film. A brief animation trailer has surfaced online but whether or not these additional pieces of media will make it outside of Japan remains to be seen.
Classic Mega Man style action fits perfectly at home and on the Vita, and given its high attachment rates for software, Mighty No.9 getting a possible release on the platform must certainly be under consideration. In the meantime though the classic side scrolling action from Mega Man X4 and X5 should be enough to satisfy Sony buyers and hopefully build up a broader audience for future Capcom classics and Inafune indie releases.
