I can’t believe I’m typing these words but yes. ITS FINALLY HAPPENING! Metroid Prime 4 is officially in development for the Switch.
One of the very first things we saw today was the reveal of Metroid Prime 4 for the Switch and my god am I excited. I’ve been a fan of the Metroid series since probably the Gameboy Advance days and playing through the Prime trilogy (soon to be quadrilogy) just got me hooked.
It’s been ten whole years since Metroid Prime 3 and in between we’ve had nothing that has come close to that series. Metroid: Other M received a very mixed reaction from the fans, I didn’t mind it and actually really enjoyed the cinematics but many found it a poor interpretation of our dear Samus Aran.
Then we’ve had Metroid Prime: Federation Force which I genuinely haven’t touched, it just didn’t look like a Prime game and I was instantly turned off. Skip forward to today and now we actually know Metroid Prime 4 is coming for the Switch!
Bill Trinen revealed as well that it isn’t being developed by Retro Studio’s and there is a new studio at the helm. But long time producer of the games, Kensuke Tanabe, who was on board with the first three is back for this one.
No further gameplay or story details were announced and we got a very short teaser clip. You can watch that at the bottom of this article and you may recognise the familiar sounds accompanying it. That all too familiar music just fills me with joy and I can’t wait to see what is going to be coming next for our heroine, I suspect it won’t be out for a long while yet but at least we know it is on the horizon…the very distant horizon!
