The forever delayed spiritual successor of the Mega Man series, Mighty No. 9, will finally be released on June 21st 2016 in North America and Asia, while the rest of the world will get it on June 24th. This news comes from the producer of the game, Keiji Inafune. According to his blog post on the official Mighty No. 9 website, Inafune states that “With the game having “gone gold” we are in the last final stages of being able to deliver it into your hands, be that via your favorite retail outlet, or via digital channels.”
Mighty No. 9 started off as a kick-started project way back in 2013. The project not only reached its goal but the total funds obtained eventually got to be over 400% of the original goal. Unfortunately the game went through what someone would call “development hell”. It was delayed multiple times and it seemed that people just lost excitement over the project. The game was originally scheduled to be released in April 2015, however, on April 28, 2015, Comcep (Development team) announced that the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and the PC version of the game will be released in September 15, 2015 in the Americas and September 18 worldwide due to last polishes and voice-over work.
In August 2015, Comcept announced once again that the game was to be released in the first quarter of 2016 because of issues an bugs with the online feature. A feature that in my opinion, was not a big part of the game to begin with. If we would have gotten the game faster without the online, then so be it. Besides all of this backlash and development troubles, the game is finally coming out next month and I couldn’t be more excited.
Mighty No. 9 is going to be playable on Microsoft Windows, OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and Wii U next month while the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS versions will follow at a later point.
“Now that the dust has settled, we will be delivering Mighty No. 9 to everyone next month. How long will it take you to clear the main story on NORMAL? How many people are going to be able to clear MANIAC mode? What is going to be the fastest record for the time attack mode? We are looking forward to seeing the community answer all of these questions for us! Make sure to let us know your feedback and thoughts on the game through our SNS channels as you play the game. Your voices are what made this game possible, and we want to continue hearing what you think so that it may influence our future endeavors. “
