What’s better than hunting gigantic monsters with your friends? That’s right! Nothing. Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the heavily upgraded version of Monster Hunter 4 for the 3DS. 4 never came out here in the west but the ultimate edition is coming here early this year.I consider myself a newcomer when it comes to Capcom’s Monster Hunter series. I played a little bit of Freedom Unite on the PSP, but I never fully immersed myself until I got my hands on Monster Hunter Tri(3) for the Nintendo Wii. I clocked in more than 100 hours into that game, and never really actually got far into upgrading my character to their fullest extent. I just spent so much time having fun playing online.
There is something so special about this series that I can’t even describe. There’s such a great feeling when you spend almost an hour trying to capture a certain monster with 3 other hunters and finally achieve your goal. The camaraderie between your teammates is nothing like playing other online team games like Call of Duty. I spent almost no time playing through the single-player missions just because I loved working together with other people to complete a goal.
With MH4U(Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate) supposed to be releasing towards the end of Q1, around April, I couldn’t be a happier man. There are new weapons and gameplay mechanics added to this sequel. You can do jump attacks and when the chance comes, even be able to jump onto a monsters back and hack at them with no remorse.
There is even going to be DLC in the form of costumes and useful items/weapons. There is even a trailer showing how there is going to be a Link costume in the game, Master Sword and all. With Nintendo teaming up with Capcom, we can only hope other first party characters become available too. I would love to kick some Wyvern butt with my main girl Samus.
If you haven’t jumped on the Monster Hunter train yet, I highly suggest you do it now! It’s easy to learn but hard to master type of game. I may have played 3 for 100 hours but there are still things I have no idea about when it comes to stats and things. I always learn something new when I play, and I learn from other players as well.
