Star Wars Battlefront 2 has finally shown a small sliver of what can expect from the game’s reworked Starfighter Assault mode. The footage is in engine and not in game, but that doesn’t detract from how awesome they’ve managed to make it all look.
Endor, Fondor, Ryloth and a small tease of Kamino are some of the planets and areas shown off for this time around. This is definitely a welcome change since none of the aerial battles in the first Battlefront even took place in space. Seeing Tie-Fighters weave through ships, Y-Wings and X-Wings doing the same, gave me a sense of delight I had missed from Battlefront. Living out Star Wars fantasies just aren’t the same without frantic space battles that could see you blown up at any second. There seems to also be the addition of hero characters on each side like Yoda and Darth Maul who get their own ships during combat.
The first Star Wars Battlefront was an incredibly mixed bag. The game was fun but unresponsive at the best of times. The graphics, sound and design were all amazingly detailed and true to their source, but lacked the content to actually put it to the best of use. Space battles were boring, slow affairs, while lack of game modes overall lead to the game having next to nothing to actually do after a few hours.
Expensive DLC that took way too long to come out and help change the landscape of the game. EA and DICE have promised that this time around, all of these issues will be addressed. Many systems do look to have been overhauled including the space combat. All future DLC is said to be free to anyone who purchases the base game, and we get the entire Star Wars Universe this time, not just the original trilogy.
Being the fan I am of Star Wars, I want nothing more than for Battlefront 2 to succeed in every aspect that its’ predecessor did not. We’ll find out come November 17th.
