The classic zombie killing arcade series House of the Dead will be rising from the grave this Fall, with an all-new arcade cabinet coming to Dave and Buster’s.
The new release will be titled House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn. This marks the first new arcade release for the series since House of the Dead 4, in 2005. The game has already been introduced to Japanese arcades. However, fans in the west have been wondering if the game would ever make it to the U.S.
Fans have Dave and Buster’s Vice President Kevin Bachus to thank for convincing Sega to bring the game to the west. “I’ve been working with SEGA for a year and a half to bring it to the west,” said Kevin on a recent Reddit post.
“We’ll have it exclusively starting sometime in October. All stores. No test. Just shot the commercial the week before last and it is going to be glorious.”
House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn will be exclusive to Dave and Buster’s through 2018, however, Sega will be allowing all arcades to order the new zombie killing machine in early 2019.
The cabinet itself is a traditional photo booth style arcade where 2 players can sit inside. The game won’t be for the faint of heart, as it features an air cannon as well as a vibrating seat to scare those who dare to enter. The outside of the cabinet will be just as chilling, featuring flashing lights, zombies, and a window to attract those passing by to take a glimpse at the action.
For those unfamiliar with the series, House of the Dead is an on-rails shooter where up to two players use light guns to stop the imminent zombie apocalypse. The series has been around since 1996 when it was introduced to arcades, PC, and Sega Saturn.
