Pokemon Go will begin testing soon, and it seems that to celebrate, the Pokemon Company and Niantic have revealed a slew of the goodies awaiting in the upcoming free-to-play Pokemon mobile game.
First up, customizing your own avatar!
Fans likely remember that back in Pokemon X & Y for the first time ever you could make your trainer look a variety of different ways depending on your favorite styles. Well, great news because you’ll be able to do this in Pokemon Go too! You’ll be able to customize looks, apparel and accessories. This avatar will be how you see yourself in the game, and other players will see your custom trainer in the game and in gyms.
Now, here’s where some new things start to come into play. Now you, the trainer, need to level up. That’s right, but you won’t evolve into some crazy thing, don’t worry. The purpose of leveling up your trainer is to grant you access to stronger and rarer Pokemon, as well as stronger items. For example, you won’t be buying any Great Balls right away. In order to level yourself up, you need to get out there and explore and encounter Pokemon.
It looks like adding to your Pokedex will be working differently as well. In order to evolve one of your captured Pokemon, you need to have multiples of it. So it seems Bulbasaur + Bulbasaur will equal an Ivysaur, or at least the opportunity to get one. You can also get Pokemon eggs from PokeStops in the game. And, just like in the usual games, eggs will hatch after you’ve walked a certain distance. Some of these eggs may even hatch into brand new Pokemon!
Just as the original reveal trailer would have you believe, some Pokemon in the game are only available in certain areas of the world. A few water types may only be obtainable near lakes or oceans, so be sure to keep an eye out.
Gyms have been given more detail finally. After leveling your trainer you’re going to be asked to join one of three teams. Once you’ve picked one, you can then assign your Pokemon to any available or freed up Gyms. Gyms are in real live places for people to encounter when walking around, just like PokeStops.
There will be a device available for the game called Pokemon Go Plus. This is a wristband that lets players interact with the game without needing their phones. The device will be connected via Bluetooth and uses a simple vibration notification to alert the player of events, encounters, or other simple interactions. One button will be on the device that will let players have a very simple control over what is happening in their game.
Add something to your Pokemon accessory collection!
Pokemon Go will be free-to-play on mobile iOS and Android devices. There are also going to be additional in-app purchases to add to your experience if you enjoy the experience enough. Sadly, there’s no release date yet.
With the field test on the way there’s sure to be more news soon so be sure to stay tuned!
