Devil May Cry‘s crazy combos and over the top combat have always been a staple to the series. That looks to be no exception to the series newest installment with the addition of Devil May Cry 5’s Void mode.
Capcom introduced the new mode during Microsoft’s XO18 conference. A new video featuring the game’s director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Matt Walker gives us an extensive look into the new training mode called The Void.
For anyone who has played a Devil May Cry title, you know exactly how intricate the combo chains can be. Itsuno gave insight into why this training mode would be great for the hardcore players who really want to learn to get the most style points from their combat performance.
The mode is very similar to a training mode in a fighting game, allowing you to toggle on and off damage and status effects. This will let the player experiment with long-form combos while also seeing how much damage it will inflict on an enemy target. This looks to be really useful and shows off just how in-depth the combat system for the game is.
Perhaps the greatest moment of this reveal was when Itsuno showed off the games Mega Buster weapon, from the Mega Man series. By equipping the Mega Buster not only do you get to blast enemies just like the Blue Bomber but your entire move set changes so that you now jump, slide, and move like Mega Man. It’s really impressive and definitely a feature that will leave any Capcom fan more than a little eager to get their hands on this game.
Unfortunately, we still have to wait a little longer. Devil May Cry 5 will launch March 8th, 2019. Until then we might just have to dive back into the previous Devil May Cry games to work on our combo chains.
