Well friends, Nintendo has presented yet another one of their famous Nintendo Directs. Prior to its announcement, it was said to be focused on the upcoming games ARMS and Splatoon 2, with a few other announcements thrown in. Well, guess what? There was in fact, many announcements, placed in a rapid-fire news style segment! Let’s round up the announcements, starting with the 3DS headlines of the direct.
To start, Nintendo has finally given us the title for the handheld Pikmin game previously announced on an older direct. The title is Hey! Pikmin, and it offers the fun of the series in the form of a 2D Sidescroller. The game is set to launch on July 28th alongside a new amiibo for the series.
Not spoken of since last year’s E3, we finally hear a little more of the upcoming 3DS RPG, Ever Oasis. Only things of interest said was a release date of June 23rd, and more information was still to come.
Monster Hunter Stories
Finally receiving confirmation of launch for the west, we have been greeted with a trailer for Monster Hunter Stories. This spinoff game appears to be a Pokémon-esque RPG where players will be raising monsters rather than hunting them. The game is set to launch in the fall.
Yokai Watch 2: Psychic Specters
Much like how the Pokémon series back in the day would eventually have a definitive third version, the same holds true for Yokai Watch 2. The third version is to include new Yokai and quests not found in the original versions last year. No solid release date for the game has yet been given aside from a fall release.
The long-running Culdcept series is celebrating its 20th anniversary, with a new entry in the series. This newest entry in the card game meets board game series hits stores August 29th.
RPG Maker Fes
Ever wanted to make your own RPG? In RPG Maker Fes, you’ll be able to do just that. You can use tools to make an RPG, and you can share your creations online, or play other people’s creations. The game launches June 27th.
JRPG meets Tomodachi Life? Welcome to Miitopia. A very unique RPG in which the characters are the Miis in your 3DS system! Standard RPG mechanics like turn-based combat and classes are in effect, along with making sure your Miis get along! The game is to launch this year.
Fire Emblem Echoes
Not much more was said of the upcoming remake aside from the announcement of DLC for the game. As is typical of Fire Emblem DLC, some will be free, while others will be paid, and the DLC will range from missions offering bonuses to improve the game, challenge missions, and even additional story elements.
Kirby’s 25th Anniversary!
Our favorite pink puffball (not you, Jigglypuff) is celebrating his 25th anniversary! It is being celebrated with three game releases:
A full version of the mini-game originally featured in Kirby Planet Robobot! The game is free to start for 3DS owners, and the game is available on eshop now!
A new game, Kirby’s Blowout Blast, is coming to the 3DS eshop. The game is all about Kirby swallowing enemies, and then defeating as many enemies as possible when he exhales, bowling style! The game is set to launch in the summer.
Lastly, a new multiplayer action game in the series is to be released this holiday. More info to come as they give it to us.
The final entry in the Boxboy trilogy launches today! Fans of the series can look forward to more puzzle solving in this game. Never played it? A special demo of all three games is also available!

Two sets of amiibo releases were announced. The first, is the release of three amiibo from The Legend of Zelda. All three are of Link, based on his appearance from Majora’s Mask, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword, respectively. These are set to launch June 23rd.
The second set will be the final amiibo for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Namely, they will be for Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta, and each amiibo will have two versions. They will be available July 21st.
With all 3DS news concluded, the Switch news started off with a great deal of information about the upcoming game, ARMS. The full details given in this direct will be explained in a future article here on the website, but there were two major takeaways: the reveal of a new character, Minmin, and the launch of the game being June 16th. The game launch will even coincide with the release of yellow joycons!
