Reports claim that Nintendo’s upcoming console, the NX, will be getting a new Mario and Pokemon title alongside the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. These products will apparently appear within the first six months of the consoles life cycle. “Sources close to Nintendo” have told MCV that the firm is determined that NX will not suffer the same slow start as either the Wii U or 3DS.
MVC claims that the NX has already garnered support of several third-party studios like Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft, Activision and even Warner Bros. We already know that Sega’s upcoming 2017 Sonic game is coming to the system as well as Just Dance 2017, but as for the other studios, no games have been announced quite yet.
We don’t know exactly what this “new” Pokemon or Mario title is just yet but this report was very vague. A new Mario game could just be Mario Kart or even a sports game. It doesn’t really mean that a new 3D Mario title will be coming out anytime soon. Since the NX is supposedly going to be a hybrid between a home console and a portable device, I suspect that the new Pokemon game in question is just a new entry in the series.
Reports also claim that the NX will be more powerful than the PS3 but not as powerful as the PS4. Nintendo is targeting an audience somewhere between the mobile players and hardcore PS4/Xbox One users. An executive talking about the new “console” stated that –“It’s a nice bit of kit, a bit of a novelty, but a good one,…..“It won’t appeal to PS4 fans.”
The NX is slated for release in March of 2017. Nintendo has yet to fully unveil the “ins and outs” of the system. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months!
