Its no secret that the Nintendo Switch has performed relatively well and surpassed expectations, now the hard job will be to maintain a steady momentum and it looks like even the big boss at Nintendo is sleeping easy!
Nintendo President; Tatsumi Kimishima most likely felt a huge amount of pressure stepping into his role with the commercial failure of the Wii U and the Nintendo Switch’s launch upcoming. Nintendo definitely had something to prove and it looks like they’ve done just that!
In an interview published by The Wall Street Journal he went on to discuss briefly his surprise at how well The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has sold and his joy at the success of the Switch.
“We have done a lot of things to raise awareness about how the Switch experience can offer something new, and I am just relieved that consumers seem to have accepted it. It is surprising that Zelda is doing so well, but it also proved what we have been saying is right: A good game title will spur sales of the platform device.”
It’s certainly good to hear such positive thoughts coming from Mr Kimishima, I’m really hoping they use this success to their advantage and keep up the promise of lots of new games in it’s first year. If Zelda can help propel the Switch then Super Mario Odyssey should keep it going, Mario games are always a staple on any Nintendo console and here’s hoping the release date isn’t too far off.
We’ve also got Splatoon 2 and ARMS coming out for the summer period which I predict will be huge hits, Splatoon already has a mass following and did extremely well on the Wii u and ARMS has that quirky charm, great gameplay and interesting characters to give Nintendo a successful new IP.
