Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding has had all sorts of mysteries surrounding it since the day it was announced. One of the bigger questions on everyone’s mind now is just when will we be able to play it. Well the game’s star voice actor, Norman Reedus thinks he just might know the Death Stranding release date.
The podcast Dan Fogler’s 4D Xperience recently interviewed the acclaimed Walking Dead actor on a variety of topics. However, things take an interesting turn when Fogler asks Reedus when the game would come out.
“I think it’s gonna be early this coming year, I have three more sessions here in New York starting next week,” said Reedus.
The sessions Norman are referring to are for motion capture. Which may suggest that there is a bit of work to still be done. But another actor who’s a part of the project, Troy Baker has made it known that he has already wrapped on all of his motion capture for the game.
So it is very possible that the game could be out early next year, but when exactly is this ‘early’ that Norman is referring too. Spring? The first of the Summer? There is no way of knowing. Of course, with video games, release dates are always subject to change as well. So we shall see.
Reedus also gave more insight into how the project came to be. He claims that after Kojima and Konami parted ways, it was Guillermo Del Toro that convinced him to join Death Stranding.
“Sony picked up Hideo and he started his own thing at Sony. So we started this other one, Guillermo is like, ‘You should do this.’ I was like, ‘What is it?’ And he was like, ‘You should do this.’”
Reedus describes what it was like to work with Kojima and it sounds just as magical as everyone imagines.
“You talk to him and you’re like, ‘Oh, you are a genius.’ He would actually be great to direct with movies because you’ll say, ‘Y’know, maybe I should do it over here, like this?’ And he’ll go, ‘Hmm, why don’t you add this on top of it?’ So he doesn’t go, ‘No, no, no, I see it that way.’ Whatever you bring to him, he just adds a couple more ingredients. He goes, ‘Well, try that then,’ and you’re like, it’s even greater.”
Reedus also gave some more insight into what the game is about. We have heard reports that the game would be more of a cooperative journey between characters and it sounds like it is exactly that.
“It’s a game of bringing people together. How you play it, is you’re building bridges from here to there, and other people are doing the same, and you connect, and the character that I play is, he’s got this phobia of being touched, and as you play the game the phobia leaves you. It’s complicated but once you’re in it, it doesn’t seem as complicated. It’s constantly surprising you with decisions left and right, and what comes at you, and it’s a real brave game.”
Reedus’s enthusiasm about the project is absolutely infectious and it’s gonna be even harder to wait for Death Stranding after hearing all this. Hopefully, this ‘early next year’ release window is true.
