So I know we’ve been giving you guys weekly reviews of some of our favorite apps, but since i’m here this week (and i’ve got an iPhone Appstore full of apps waiting to be downloaded) I figured i’d update you all with the latest app store additions that are worth your time! I’m checking out the highest rated apps on the app-store and determining whether they should be here and why they are there. So let’s check out the highest rated apps for the week of May 20th and help you decide whether they’re worth a purchase. (These are all from the Apple App Store this week, so all apps reviewed are compatible with Apple products).
Jurassic World Mobile MovieMaker
One of the new apps, (and the easiest time killer) is Jurassic World Mobile MovieMaker. The premise is simple, take your own videos and photos and add realistic dinosaurs from Jurassic World to the mix. A quick way to entice and remind players of the upcoming movie, while allowing friends to have a bit of fun with adding these prehistoric creatures to their media. Truthfully though, the game is fun for about five minutes if that, and then you’re quickly over the initial fun. The animations are nice and there are 10 Dinosaurs to choose from that you can download, each representing a different type of dinosaur (Carnivore, Herbivore and flying). You’re provided with the dinosaur’s animations before selection, and you simple take the photo and add the dinosaur in. The good thing is that the dinosaur downloads and the app are all free, since there isn’t much more to do (and as far as I see, there’s no way to use the front-facing camera, so selfies with a dinosaur are not easily accomplished). Overall, if you and your friends are bored, download the app for five minutes of fun in-between sessions of other things, otherwise i’d pass on the game.
Zombies, Run! has made its way back onto the app store, and for good reason. Zombies, Run! is an interactive immersive experience within itself. Its an audio adventure, where you plug your headphones in, and as you walk, jog, or run you’re listening to your music and your run suddenly becomes a mission of rebuilding and securing the world around you as you hear zombies closing in on you from behind. It’s truly an exciting way to keep yourself running, and as the zombies come, you’re encouraged to run faster. You’re given a story told throughout the actual gameplay and you are Runner 5 out to help rebuild the base (your home or return point) into a live-able area. The game touts 200+ story missions that are told to you between your own playlist tracks, and is a fun unique experience that’s FREE!
The game itself though is more like an audiobook, and unless you’re really into the story, the novelty can wear off after a while. The best part is that the game works whether you’re walking, jogging or running (as well as doing those activities on a treadmill) so you won’t feel pressured but you will be able to push yourself comfortably while being updated on the status of your home base. If anything Zombies, Run! is at least worth a try, since it’s free and all. Do yourself a favor and check it out, it may be just what you need to get into exercise or get immersed in your own zombie world.
Lovely art, beautiful graphics and animation, a quick and quirky story with adorable characters, and addictive gameplay easily sum up the free to play title that is Languinis. This game gets a mention because its the best of both puzzle solving and spelling worlds. You swipe matching tiles to uncover letters, and use those letters to spell new words. Though the premise is simple, this was the best friend game I downloaded this week. You have a certain amount of moves available to you, and you must meet the quota of letters and the target within the amount of moves available to you. The game also allows for a hint tile that enables you to choose a letter that’s unavailable to complete a word. The only complain I have, is that a few words (such as “safety”) were not accepted, and I think the game could use an update. Other than that, the game is perfect, and is a must grab for anyone with free space.
Those are my top picks for the week, is there anything else I should be playing? Let me know in the comments below!
