Just yesterday, Nintendo streamed a Direct presentation to talk about the 2016 lineup of games for the Wii U and 3DS. It was a pretty lengthy video that featured some already known titles and also some new surprises. The company announced a new game in the Paper Mario series for the Wii U called Color Splash. It’s been a little over 3 years since we’ve had a new entry in the Paper Mario series. The last title was Sticker Star, which came out on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2012. The game wasn’t received too well and was in my opinion, probably the low point of the turn-based rpg franchise. Nintendo has announced that Paper Mario: Color Splash will not only be for the Wii U but will be releasing sometime in 2016.
The game takes place on the beautiful Prism Island, but of course there’s a problem that needs to be solved by none other than Mario himself. The island is being drained of its color. He has a brand new paint hammer that lets him splash color all around the lush environments. You can even find toads and bring them back to “life”.
The battle system seems to be back to the way I like it. The battle system in Sticker Star was pretty terrible because there was no reason to grind or fight anything at all. There was no experience gained or levels to advanced when in combat, which led me to avoid fighting all-around. In the trailer for Color Splash, we can see that there is an HP bar which hopefully means that some good ol’ turn based combat will be back!
Look out for Paper Mario: Color Splash when it releases later this year exclusively on the Nintendo WIi U.
