There is such a massive debate, between PC and console gaming. With so many different opinions up in the air, many straying toward the console for many years, with few venturing out into the spectacular world of PC gaming, however as times progresses the PC gaming community is growing and expanding, meaning many console veterans are taking a look at what all the fuss is about. Many are then having the realization that PC games can genuinely offer you a more innovative gaming experience.
One of the main genres that are played on a console is first person shooters or FPS. As the list of shooting or war games on the console is near enough endless, PC offers a completely different feel when it comes to FPS, and in my personal opinion opens the world way past what consoles can achieve. SoI’mm going to take a look at different aspects within these two, such as the controls, the games they have to offer, and the hardware which supports it.
Firstly, the controls. I think this is one of the major things that pushes console gamers away from PC as they can’t imagine the world where a keyboard and mouse offer the ability to play a game, and truly I understand that fear. I too began on console and played FPS for years on a console, and I could not for the life of me understand how you could do the same with a keyboard and mouse, but once you get used to the controls and the feel of the keys, it’s just as natural as a controller and honestly feels more natural and quicker. It seems to allow you to react quicker and respond quicker, subsequently making the game quicker, more competitive, and all round more enjoyable. Even if you can’t get used to the controls there are ways to attach a controller to your PC and play that way.
Next, the games. From the outset, it may look as though PC could no way keep up with the game world, and for many parts that is true, and obviously, you wouldn’t be able to pick up Sony exclusives on your PC. But most FPS games are rendered into the PC world too, meaning the most popular FPS games on console can also be picked up on PC, along with other games that cannot be purchased on console, such as Counter Strike: Global Offensive, which is the biggest FPS game within the PC world and honestly, it offers much more than the large games within console gaming do as it offers the fun idea of console games with just mindless killing whilst offering a large competitive scene which anyone can play, and enjoy, while aspiring to become a pro player. The only real downfall of this game is the campaign, as it lacks one at all.
Finally, the hardware. This is completely different to console and offers a complete new way of playing FPS as you control how strong your PC is and you control the settings the game runs on, so you are not capped by the console’s graphics or processing power, meaning you could push your PC and play a sensational FPS such as Crytek in all its glory with its beautiful settings, something that can’t be achieved with a console. As well as this you aren’t limited by what you can do while playing, meaning you can run other programs simultaneously as it has the processing power to do so. On the other hand, there is a major downfall to this, which is cost, as not everyone who only plays FPS wants to pay an arm and a leg, so they will stick to console, but I honestly believe if they tried PC they would see the light.
If you have any thoughts let me know. I’d love to know what you think.
