Nintendo has officially announced that Pokémon Crystal will be making its way to the 3DS virtual console on January 26th of 2018. This announcement comes as no surprise considering that Nintendo has already re-released almost all of the original Game Boy games.
Along with the game’s announcement came a nostalgia-fueled trailer, that will give any longtime Pokémon fan a stroll down memory lane. The trailer also announced a new feature of the game to U.S. players. The Japan-exclusive Celebi quest will now be available for all regions.
This quest allows players to receive a GS ball after defeating the Final Four. From there, players can head to a special shrine where they have the opportunity to catch Celebi. This feature was removed from the original U.S. release of the game and was only obtainable by using the Game Boy Game Shark. This caused controversy with many fans at the time who were unable to catch the legendary Pokémon.
Pokémon Crystal will also officially mark the availability of every Pokémon game being playable on the 3DS. Of course, this does exclude the Fire Red and Leaf Green remakes for GBA. The 3DS has become every Pokémon lovers dream with so many titles to play and a Pokémon Bank system that allows all of your Pocket Monsters to be transferred between games.
Surely Nintendo will keep the momentum going on the Switch. Nintendo did announce earlier this year that the next mainline Pokémon game will come to the Switch. Many fans are wondering if the untitled Pokémon Switch game will be compatible with Pokémon Bank. Surely it will as many players have spent hundreds of hours acquiring every catchable Pokémon. Still no official word has come from Nintendo on whether it will or not, but for now, the 3DS remains to be the perfect Pokémon gaming system.
