Data-miners have found some interesting information in the code of the latest version of Pokemon GO. Apparently, a gameplay feature called “The Buddy System,” will let you take one of your Pokemon and obtain candies by walking with them “attached” to your player.
AeonLucid and Elfinlazz, two Pokemon GO analyzers, found some code in the newest update for the game that introduces the buddy system. Pokemon GO Hub broke down the complicated code discussion into simple terms so that normal people like me can read it and understand what it all means.
The buddy system seems to use the same calculation as the one used to hatch Pokemon eggs. Walking with your Pokemon will award you with candy; amount is yet to be determined. This change in the game would make so much sense because some Pokemon are very hard to find and some are even region-specific; like Kangaskhan and Mr.Mime. You need the candy of said Pokemon to evolve it and you have to catch that same Pokemon to get its’ candy. If you happen to catch a rare Pokemon, it’s almost impossible to evolve it since you have to out and catch it multiple times. The buddy system will let you get candy by simply walking your Pokemon.
According to the code, you can only walk one Pokemon at a time and there is a daily limit for obtained candy so you can’t abuse the function. There are also various looks of Buddy Pokemon; medium size, big size, flying next to you, and rests on your shoulder. This sounds like it’s the animation that your Pokemon will have once it’s next to your avatar. Some Pokemon will be on your person like Pidgey and sparrow, and some will look huge next to you like Snorlax and Venasuar.
This new buddy system would be an amazing update to the game. It will make the connection between players and their Pokemon that much better.
